Digital X-rays

Clear images in minutes, reviewed with you in the room

What can digital X-rays show?

Digital X-rays help us look at bones and joints, organ size and shape, the chest, and whether something was swallowed. That includes fractures, arthritis, hip and spine changes, bladder stones, heart enlargement, fluid in the chest or belly, and foreign objects.

When might my pet need X-rays?

We often recommend them for limping that lasts more than a day, trouble breathing or a lingering cough, repeated vomiting, a suspected swallowed object, trauma, a bloated belly, or straining to urinate or defecate. They also help before some surgeries, during senior exams, and when we are watching a chronic problem.

Will you go over the images with me?

Yes. Findings are usually available during the visit. We review the images in the exam room and talk through next steps. You get a written estimate before we take images.

Does my pet need sedation?

Most pets do not need sedation for routine X-rays. We may recommend mild sedation for a very anxious pet or when positioning has to be exact, such as hip screening.

What happens at this visit?

  • We explain why imaging is recommended and give a written estimate first.
  • We take digital X-rays and look at them during your visit.
  • We review the images with you and outline what happens next.

What to bring

Bring a short list of what your pet eats and any medications or preventives they take. You do not need old clinic records if we already see your pet here.
