Advanced Surgical Monitoring at Morgan Hill Animal Hospital

Every heartbeat matters. That’s why we monitor your pet with the same advanced technology used in human hospitals, because when they’re under anesthesia, nothing less than total vigilance will do.

Is Anesthesia Safe for My Dog or Cat? Our Monitoring Makes Sure It Is.

We understand. Handing your pet over for surgery feels like handing over your heart. The worry is real: Will they be okay? What if something goes wrong? How will I know they’re safe?

Here’s what we want you to know: While our skilled surgeons focus on the procedure, our advanced monitoring systems and dedicated monitoring technicians keep a constant watch on every vital sign, every breath, and every heartbeat. It’s like having a guardian angel with a medical degree standing watch over your pet.

Surgical monitoring

Every surgery is watched, heartbeat by heartbeat

What do you monitor during surgery?

We watch heart rate and rhythm (ECG), oxygen saturation, blood pressure, core temperature, and carbon dioxide (capnography) throughout the procedure. A team member stays on those readings so the surgeon can focus on the surgery.

Is anesthesia safe for my dog or cat?

Anesthesia always has risk. Monitoring, warming, and a dedicated person on the vitals reduce that risk. We also use pre-anesthetic lab work when it is appropriate, so we know more about kidney, liver, and blood status before we start.

Does this apply to routine procedures too?

Yes. Spay, neuter, dental work, and more involved surgeries all get monitoring. Small pets and longer procedures especially need temperature support.

What happens after the procedure?

We keep watching until your pet is recovering steadily, then send you home with aftercare steps so you are not guessing.

What happens at this visit?

  • We review the procedure, risks, and a written estimate.
  • During surgery we monitor heart, oxygen, blood pressure, temperature, and breathing.
  • We stay with your pet through recovery and go over home care before you leave.
